Project Description

As urban populations continue to grow, state governments continue motivating the public to use public transport. However, how well are the public transport systems on offer performing? A little bird has told us maybe not so well. LittleBird uses OpenData to profile public transport routes, providing a scorecard for their performance across a range of metrics including on-time performance, frequency and ridership. With LittleBird we can identify the worst and best performing routes within the urban sprawls of NSW and ACT, assisting the public make informed choices about their public transport use and governments better plan services.

Data Story

We connected multiple datasets from Transport NSW OpenData Portal and dataACT Portal to bring LittleBird to life. We used both real-time and historical data to analyse transport efficiencies. We then created a performance rating based on the government’s own performance ratings.
