Project Description

Introducing an AI-powered app designed to bring the latest in NT's science and technology advancements to our local community. Equipped with a GPT-3 chatbot, it's adept at answering a range of queries spanning infrastructure, health, education, IT, and more to come in the future. The app harnesses NLP to simplify academic findings for public comprehension, alongside dynamic AI visualizations that shed light on local infrastructure blueprints—past, present, and future. A dedicated forum encourages user interactions, fostering feedback and shared insights to enrich both the app and our community. Plus, personalized reading suggestions are offered, tailored to users' reading patterns and professions.

Data Story

Building the NTech Explorer app was a collaborative journey. Our starting point was data: we sourced datasets from the NT government's website and an insightful text report from CSIRO. Among our resources were five .csv files detailing NT's infrastructure plans from 2017 to 2022, available on NT's official dataset page. Additionally, the Artificial Intelligence for Science report provided textual data for our project.

Our first step was tidying up. We streamlined the five government datasets, and after some reshaping, merged them into a more analytical-friendly format. This prepped dataset became our foundation for various visuals, highlighting NT's estimated yearly costs, the top sectors and regions for investments, and a focused look at Science & Technology sector investments.

Our ambition was to peer into the future, so we harnessed Linear Regression, a Machine Learning technique, to predict potential investments in sci-tech projects over the next three years. We also saw the potential of using Natural Language Processing (NLP) to decipher dense academic reports, making them more community-friendly. That is why we applied NLP to turn academic research into an easy-approaching and understandable summarized paragraph.

We also envisioned the GPT-3 chatbot as the app's virtual guide. And though we haven't integrated it yet, we're optimistic given the flexibility of OpenAI's API.

In sum, we're proud of the NTech Explorer. We believe it can bridge the gap between the government and the community, keeping everyone updated on the latest in sci-tech.
